I cannot move the icons on my phone from screen to screen.
You should be able to do that. When you hold down on one of the apps, until they wiggle, you should be able to drag them between the screens. Try to reset the home screen layout:
To move an app to a different Home screen, follow these steps: 1. Click the app and drag it to the list of Home screens and hold it over the Home screen to which you want to move it. ITunes displays that Home screen. Drag the app to where you want it to appear, and the drop it. The other apps move out of the way to make space for the app. The app is now simply called “Find My” as it combines the features of the Find My iPhone and Find My Friends apps and you can find it pre-installed on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. The single app now helps you share your location with your friends and family, keep up with the location shared by others, and also see the last known. On iPhone X and later, tap Done to save. On iPhone 8 and earlier, press the Home button. To rearrange app icons on the Home screen, tap and hold one until all the icons start to jiggle. You can also tap and hold one, and then tap “Edit Home Screen” in the menu that appears. Then, start dragging icons wherever you want them on the Home screen. Dragging an app to the left or right edge will move it to the previous or next screen.
Go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap Reset Home Screen Layout. Resetting the Home screen removes any folders you’ve created and applies the default wallpaper.
But you can arrange the apps in iTunes: From the iTunes Help:

- Click the Apps button.
- Click Install next to the apps you want to sync. If you have iOS 3.1 or later, you can also also do the following:
- Drag apps from the list on the left to the Home screen on the right.
- Arrange your device’s Home screens by double-clicking a screen and dragging app icons to where you want them to appear.

As you download more apps, your homescreen starts to get cluttered. On its own, the iPhone doesn’t have any particular way of arranging the icons because that freedom is left to you. You can drag and drop icons anywhere in the screen as you see fit.
As you go about downloading more apps, the icons get scattered across the screens. With more than three homescreens, it becomes difficult to find the right app without resorting to the spotlight search.
So how do you re-arrange the icons in a familiar format? For instance, the iPhone lets you rearrange your homescreen icons alphabetically. This way, it becomes a little faster to figure out where the app is, relative to other apps on the homescreen.
Here’s how to re-arrange the homescreen icons on your iPhone/iPad:
- Go to Settings
- Tap on General
- Now go to Reset
- Tap on Reset Homescreen Layout
What does this do?
- First off, it resets the homescreen layout to the default setting. Unfortunately, this changes the dock icons too so if you had Messages on the dock, it will be gone now
- Secondly, it re-arranges alphabetically all the apps that you’ve downloaded
- Thirdly, if there are folders, they will be removed and the apps will be out of the folders
Granted, this isn’t technically a ‘neat’ solution to re-arrange icons but if you’re looking for just this, you can try it.
Also, if you go to Settings → General → Restrictions → Apps and toggle between Don’t Allow Apps and Allow All Apps, we’ve observed that only the downloaded apps get re-arranged alphabetically without the folders being removed or dock being reset to default.
This method, however doesn’t work for everyone.
